Aviation Artist Michael J. Cooney



Michael Cooney was born in Chicago, IL. From early on he had a dream of pursuing an art career. He was an active member of art classes throughout his school years. In 1976, he joined the Marine Corps Reserves and served proudly for over 12 years.

Over the years Michael has been productive in publishing and producing works from paintings to bronze sculptures. Colleges, law enforcement agencies, corporations and the U.S. military have commissioned him to produce various works. Some of his works have been used in major motion pictures and book publications.

His enthusiasm of flight has enabled hundreds of thousands throughout the world to enjoy his aviation depictions representing the elite U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds & U.S. Navy Blue Angels. For his personal and professional efforts in support of the squadron, he was awarded the title of Honorary Thunderbird in 1993.
